Fast Forward to Today.
Around 2015, Twanny Bugeja, retired from work, and started going to Elland Road, regularly. During this period, he made contact with various Leeds supporters and also some officials. He was encouraged to see that a supporters club in Malta be established. In, 2019, while Claude Cuschieri was present for some matches at Elland Road & Thorp Arch, he discussed this same idea with an official of Leeds United and he was referred to Twanny Bugeja. Back in Malta, Claude Cuschieri contacted Twanny Bugeja on this idea. A group of Leeds United supporters were contacted to evaluate this. This group consisted of Twanny Bugeja, Claude Cuschieri, Richard Dimech, Jesmond Mangion, Hilary Attard, Ray Saliba & Tonio Galea. The first meeting was held on the 28th of October 2019 in Twanny Bugeja’s residence in Attard. After some meetings Hilary Attard opted not to participate any more. So, it was decided to hold a meeting at ‘Il-Fanal Restaurant’in Triq is-Salini, Marsascala, on the 11th of March 2020. On that day, the ‘Leeds United Supporters Club – Malta’ was again formed.
For this meeting, 64 supporters attended and became members of this club. In the introduction, it was made clear that this provisional committee was there till the right moment to call a general meeting for a committee to be officially elected. In this meeting a statute would also be presented. Just after that, the pandemic of Covid-19 reached Malta and due to the Health Authorities’ restrictions, this could not be fulfilled. The first tentative date was for the 19th of August 2020 and again for the 14th of November 2020. But, due to the continued restrictions, and consultation with various members, they were both cancelled. Hence, it was decided that this provisional committee would keep on till the end of the season until the health conditions were right. During a committee meeting two days later, that is on the 16th November 2020, it was decided that the representative from Gozo would join this committee as was intended in the statute that was going to be presented. So, Eucharist Camilleri joined the committee as he was elected by the members from Gozo. The committee was formed by:
| President | Mr. Twanny Bugeja |
| Vice-President & Gozo Representative | Mr. Eucharist Camilleri |
| Secretary | Mr. Tonio Galea |
| Treasurer | Mr. Richard Dimech |
| Public Relations Officer | Mr. Raymond Saliba |
| Relations with Maltese Football | Mr. Claude Cuschieri |
| Function Organizer | Mr. Jesmond Mangion |
Membership
At the meeting on the 11th of March 2020, 64 supporters accepted our invitation and enrolled with the club. Slowly this number went up to 135 members and is still growing. Contact with interested supporters was made purely through the Facebook page – Leeds United Supporters Club – Malta’. Various Leeds supporters started joining this page and afterwards as members. Contact with each member in this page is being kept from time to time through a private message which is being sent to them, especially messages related to the initiatives being taken. On enrolment, each member is given a club scarf and badge, which are sponsored by Twanny Bugeja. The membership fee was set at 10 Euros only as a contribution towards the expenses for the running of the club to be of service to each member.
